In military or police operations it is necessary at times to break a window, plate glass, sliding glass door, etc. These are generally constructed of tempered safety glass, which is very difficult to break when struck by a blunt object such as the muzzle or butt of a weapon, a flashlight or baton. An inherent danger of swinging any object at a window is making contact with someone/something on the backswing or on the follow through after breaking the glass.
